Umbelina Pereira "Evelyna", 55, passed on December 21st. Born in Brava, Cape Verde, a daughter of Maria Sangira and Oliveiro Pereira. She was a lifelong resident of Fox Point. Evelina is survived by three children, Tameika, Addison, Christopher Gomes and Jessica Gomes, two brothers, Carlos Pereira of Florida and John Pereira, his wife Melissa of RI, six grandchildren, Damoni, Diamond, Keara, Anthony, Chance & Omari, a nephew, Darien Pereira.
She was a lifetime volunteer at Camp Street Ministries and most recently Riverside Congregational Church. She gave back to the community by helping to prepare and serve meals to those in need every Sunday. Evelyna loved her Cape Verdean culture, the music and dancing. She was an annual participant at RI's Cape Verdean Festival held in India Point Park where she cooked & served her traditional Creole recipes. She also loved spending time on the ocean. but most importantly being surrounded by her family, friends & many loved ones. Every child and person she encountered found a hand to hold, an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on and a heart to love in Evelyna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 27th in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Providence at 10:00am. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00pm until 8:00pm in the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln.
